FLAGSHIP EMPLOYMENT SCHEME – JOBS GROWTH WALES

A significant milestone has been met today as Deputy Minister for Skills Jeff Cuthbert announced 4000 job opportunities have been created by the Welsh Government’s flagship employment scheme Jobs Growth Wales.

Jobs Growth Wales is designed to tackle a key issue that young people face in their search for work, namely, how they can secure the relevant work experience employers require when they are recruiting.
As well as creating job opportunities for unemployed young people, the posts created by Jobs Growth Wales are new positions and therefore can help Welsh businesses grow.

David Rees AM said:
“It is wonderful news that these 4000 opportunities have been created. Behind this number are thousands of young people who have been given a chance to reach their potential. Tackling unemployment, and the detrimental effect it can have on young people’s self-belief, wellbeing and future prospects, is a key priority for this government. Jobs Growth Wales is a fantastic programme and I hope it goes on to help many more people.”

Deputy Minister for Skills Jeff Cuthbert said:
“Through Jobs Growth Wales we aim to create and fill 4000 job opportunities a year for the next three years for young people aged between 16-24.

“It’s great news that we’ve created these 4000 opportunities. We know that so far over 2000 young people have found employment through Jobs Growth Wales, it’s really important that we now strive to ensure these remaining positions are filled. I also want to see as many of these jobs as possible become permanent positions or apprenticeships for as many participants as possible.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved with Jobs Growth Wales so far. It is a Welsh response to the youth unemployment issue. The Welsh Government’s absolute priority in these tough times is to stand up for the people of Wales, creating jobs and enabling growth. We’re doing just that.”
