Excitement Grows with Outline Planning Permission Granted for Proposed Afan Adventure Park (Published 20/03/2019)

Plans for an Afan Valley Adventure Park take a step closer this week as Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council grant outline planning permission for the long-awaited adventure complex.

 

Aberavon’s Assembly Member, David Rees, and Ogmore Assembly Member, Huw Irranca-Davies, will work with the developer and both local authorities (Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend) as the project progresses to take full advantage of the jobs and skills potential for the local communities. They are also keen to make sure that local suppliers and businesses benefit fully from the opportunities and that the economic benefits for the local area are maximised.

Situated at the top of the Afan and Llynfi Valleys the proposals for the Afan Valley Adventure Resort aim to see the development of a world-class adventure resort providing significant employment opportunities for the local area, giving a massive boost to the local economy and creating a world-class tourism destination in the beautiful South Wales valleys.

Assembly Members Huw Irranca-Davies and David Rees have previously visited the site with Welsh Government Ministers, and have been closely engaged with planners, government agencies and the developer since the very beginning of this project. Whilst there is still much work to be done before construction of the project begins, including protection and mitigation of the natural environment, the AMs will continue to work constructively with partners to bring this project to completion.

 

David Rees AM said “This is a major step-forward on this exciting project, which could help transform the local economy and provide many opportunities for local businesses and for local jobs. I commend Neath Port Talbot Council and the developers for the way they have persevered to get to this stage on a project which could offer a visionary visitor experience in our valleys.”

 

Huw Irranca-Davies AM added “Whilst there is still much to be done, we will continue to work with the developer, and with both local authorities and businesses to ensure that the jobs and skills for local people in construction and operation of this exciting year-round tourism development are maximised, and that local people are kept informed at all stages. This is an exciting time for these valleys and for South Wales as a whole, and we hope people will throw their support behind this transformative project. ”
