David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, has today welcomed the release of the latest Jobs Growth Wales figures, which show that 476 positions have been created in the Neath Port Talbot area, with 12,436 jobs created across Wales as a whole.
Jobs Growth Wales is a Welsh Government scheme that reimburses local employers for employing young people aged 16-24 for the first six months. Latest figures show that 80% of participants go on to take up jobs, apprenticeships or further training opportunities. On top of the job opportunities created, 220 young entrepreneurs across Wales have been supported by Jobs Growth Wales bursaries.
David further welcomed the introduction of the Youth Guarantee which is the offer, acceptance and commencement of a suitable place in education or training for a young person making the first time transition from compulsory education at 16.
David said: “I am delighted to see so many young people in my area and across Wales benefitting from the Welsh Government’s successful Jobs Growth Wales scheme. Youth unemployment is one of the most serious issues facing society today, and with the potential for whole generations to suffer the blight of unemployment, I am pleased to see that the Welsh Government is determined to leave nobody behind.”
