David Rees AM Supports the local High Street

This week sees the start of the Welsh Governments Support Your High Street campaign, which runs from the 19th to the 26th September, and during this time we should showcase the vast range of shops and services available on Wales’ diverse high streets and town centres.

Aberavon’s Assembly Member David Rees wants to hear from residents on Facebook and Twitter about why the High Streets in Aberavon are so special to residents and is urging people to share their stories that spell out the uniqueness of the high street.

David Rees AM has been talking to traders on the High Streets in Taibach, Skewen, Briton Ferry and Port Talbot town centre about the Welsh Governments Support Your High Street initiative, as part of local High Street week and wants to use social media, as well as the conventional media to convince more people to shop on their local high street. People can do this by using the hashtag #SupportHighStreet

David Rees AM said: “Local High Street are the bedrock of the local economy and local shops offer much more than just a one-stop-shop: they have more variety, they pride themselves on personal service and offer a friendly local welcome. The Support your High Street campaign gives us an excellent opportunity to celebrate these great businesses and reward them for their hard work all year by celebrating High Street Week, and continuing to shop in our local high streets ensuring that we help local businesses thrive during difficult trading times”.

“It would be great to hear from people in Port Talbot and Skewen about our fantastic High Streets. I am hoping to receive stories from residents about our town centre and high streets.  I know many residents are on Facebook and twitter so my message to them is get tweeting and don’t forget to use the hast tag #SupportHighStreet or to copy me in to your Facebook posts”
