David Rees AM was pleased to support and speak at the Mental Health Carers Conference held in Baglan today. The conference, organised by Neath Port Talbot Carers Service in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Mind and Swansea Council, helped to raise awareness of the challenges faced by carers of individuals with mental health issues, and included workshops and exhibitions on a variety of topics, including mindfulness training and laughter therapy.
David said: “I was delighted to speak at the Mental Health Carers Conference today, and to support carers of people with mental health issues. Carers provide an invaluable and irreplaceable service out of kindness and compassion for their loved ones, and their contribution cannot be underestimated.”
“I was particularly keen today to continue to raise awareness of the provisions of the recent Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act, which puts carers at the centre of decision-making. This Act will enable carers to be involved in care planning decisions and to have their own needs assessed, so they are able to receive the support they themselves require. The input of carers is indispensable to ensuring that the best care is provided to people suffering from mental health conditions, and we must do all we can to support both to enable and empower them to live life as fully as possible.”
