David Rees AM encourages local youngsters to register for Discounted Travel Scheme

David Rees, AM for Aberavon, is encouraging local 16-18 year olds to register for a new Welsh Government scheme, which will give them a third off bus travel in Wales from the 1st of September.

The Welsh Young Persons Discounted Travel (WYPDT) Scheme will help young people in Wales reduce the cost of accessing training, education and work as well as helping pay for all other journeys.

Bus users are being encouraged to register for the scheme via Gov.wales/mytravelpass (English) or Llyw.cymru/fyngherdynteithio (Welsh). Registering will enable them to receive discounted fares on all local buses and TrawsCymru journeys throughout Wales.

Speaking about the benefits, David said: “This is great news for 16-18 year olds in Aberavon.  It shows the importance the Welsh Government places on helping young people to access opportunities, such as training and employment.”

“Travel costs can be a real barrier for young people to get a job or gain the skills they need and this scheme will help change that, by making it easier for 16-18 year olds to travel around Wales.”

“I would encourage all eligible residents in Aberavon to register.”
