DAVID REES AM BACKS FREE INTERNET ACCESS FOR TOURISTS

Tourists visiting Wales will be able to log onto the internet for free after the Welsh Labour Government struck a deal with a major mobile provider.

Visitors to tourist centres across Wales will be able to access e-mail, social networking sites and other web based services as part of a scheme launched by Visit Wales and communications company, Three.
Across Wales, the scheme will be rolled out to 24 Welsh tourist information providing each centre with MiFi device and 15GB of data per month for a year, enough to browse 15,000 internet pages, make 60 hours of Skype calls or send approximately 75,000 emails.

David Rees AM said:
“This new initiative will help to give visitors access to a whole host of local information, such as maps or key sites to visit.”

“There is vast potential for tourism in Wales and it’s important in these difficult financial times we do everything we can to attract business and boost the local economy.”

Welsh Labour’s Business Minister Edwina Hart said:
“The Tourism industry in Wales plays a vital role in our economy, bringing an average £4bn to Wales each year. Innovative developments are key to improving our services and overall visitor experience which is vital if we are to compete with other destinations.

“Connectivity in this day and age is fundamental to the success of our businesses and communities.”
