Congratulations to the Green Flag Award Winners from local AM

David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, would like to congratulate the five sites in the Neath Port Talbot area on winning Green Flag awards, part of the Keep Wales Tidy/Green Spaces Wales scheme. Afan Forest Park, Talbot Memorial Park and Margam Park in Aberavon, as well as Gnoll Park and Victoria Gardens in Neath, were all awarded Green Flag status at a ceremony in Margam Park on Thursday 3rd October, with the awards presented by John Griffiths AM, Minister for Sport and Culture.

The Green Flag Award Scheme recognises and rewards the best green spaces across Britain, setting the standard for high-quality green parks and other green areas and promoting clean and tidy environments. Part of Keep Wales Tidy, a leading environmental charity working to promote environmental sustainability and wellbeing, winning five Green Flag Awards demonstrates that the Neath Port Talbot area is leading the way in beautiful, clean and environmentally-friendly green spaces and is a welcome boost for the area.

There was further excitement as Margam Park won the extra accolade of the People’s Choice Award, which recognised the park as the public’s favourite green space in the whole of Wales. Margam Park will now go forward into the UK-wide competition, competing to be the people’s favourite green space in Britain.
