AM WELCOMES MODERN FACILITY BUT EMPHASISES THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSULTATION

Aberavon AM, David Rees, has welcomed Neath Port Talbot Council’s decision to replace the Afan Lido with a new modern facility. However, in a comment to the Minister for Local Government and Communities, Carl Sargeant, he highlighted the importance of undertaking a full consultation process to ensure that the facility meets the demands of local people.

David Rees AM said:
‘I’m very pleased that the council has decided to replace the Afan Lido with a new modern facility. Such facilities play a huge role in the life of an area, and I hope this new complex will go on to become a much used and loved part of Port Talbot.’

He added:
‘As such, it’s vital that local authorities should undertake a full consultation process with its citizens to ensure that these facilities both meet demand and are viable. I’m pleased with the reassurances from the authority that this will be taking place prior to any final design being approved.’
David’s comments about the Afan Lido were made in the Senedd on Wednesday (14.3.12), during plenary, when he highlighted the importance of such facilities for community life. David Rees has championed the replacement of the Afan Lido since his election.
