AM WELCOMES HEALTH MINISTER TO NEATH PORT TALBOT HOSPITAL

Aberavon AM, David Rees, has welcomed the Minister for Health and Social Services, Lesley Griffiths, to Neath Port Talbot Hospital (Wednesday 19th September 2013). The Minister and David Rees AM met staff and patients in the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) together with those in the diagnostic services at the hospital. Whilst visiting the hospital they were also able to see the progress being made on the new IVF unit that will be established at the turn of the year and which will serve the wider South Wales community.

The Minister acknowledged the excellent facilities at the hospital and was encouraged by the proposals for the hospital being put forward for the years ahead.

David Rees AM said:
“I’m very pleased that the Minister has accepted my invitation to see the wonderful work done by staff and the local community in the hospital and see the potential it has to deliver health services within ABMU.”

“During these tough times our focus must be on ensuring that the people of Neath Port Talbot receive the safe and high quality health care they deserve, something I know the Minister strongly advocates.”

“I have always been reassured by the board of ABMU that the primary focus is, and always has been, on providing safe services for all residences and that the hospital will continue to play a major role in service delivery in ABMU.”

Since the decision to approve the recommendation of stopping acute medical services at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, David Rees AM has met with the Chief Executive of ABMU, senior officers of the board, the Deanery and the Minister for Health and Social Services, Lesley Griffiths, to highlight the concerns of local people and seek assurances for both the hospital’s future and the continued delivery of local services. The coming weeks will see the start of a consultation process on the board’s plans for future service delivery within the area under the title “Changing for the Better” and David Rees AM is encouraging residents to become involved in that process over the coming months.
