Aberavon AM, David Rees, has been assured by the Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science, Edwina Hart, that the Welsh Government will be instructing solicitors to take legal proceedings against the occupiers of an unofficial site that has sprung up in his constituency. Earlier this month David contacted Ministers after a small, but growing, group of travellers set up an ad-hoc, unofficial encampment on Welsh Government land adjacent to the Amazon warehouse in Jersey Marine.
David Rees AM said:
“Local residents and businesses had expressed concerns over the establishment of this site and were anxious about possible health hazards and economic impacts that might arise as a result. Unofficial encampments, such as this one, which do not have appropriate facilities, could lead to the creation of unhealthy environments for both local residents and travellers.”
David Rees AM added:
“Going forward, it is vital that we ensure that that any travellers who are moved are able to find accommodation on existing official sites, so they can be in a safe location that provides them with safe and hygienic facilities.”
