Aberavon AM welcomes transport funding boost

David Rees AM has today welcomed the news that the Welsh Labour Government is providing additional funds for transport schemes to improve safety, create economic growth and promote active travel.

The Welsh Government have provided over £1.6m for a number of different schemes in Neath Port Talbot that includes several specific projects in Aberavon including £136,000 for work on the B4290 between Llandarcy and Skewen, £250,000 for provision of shared use path and pedestrian crossing on Margam Road, as well as improvements to the priority bus corridors between Port Talbot and Margam.

The scheme is aimed at improving connectivity and safety on roads in and around Aberavon.

David Rees AM said: “This is great news for commuters and residents in Aberavon. We have long been calling for road safety improvements in Aberavon and I would like to congratulate Neath Port Talbot council for recognising this need in its transport plans. This shows that our Labour authority are working closely with the Welsh Labour Government to deliver improvements based on the priorities of local people in Aberavon.”

£10,000 Active Travel Integrated Map
£583,000 NPT Integrated Transport Package
• Improvements to the priority bus corridors between Port Talbot and Margam.
£254,000 NPT Active Travel Package
• Improvements to active travel routes on the National Cycle Network (NCN) within Neath Port Talbot.

Road Safety Capital Grant

• £136,000 for signage, road markings, central hatching road markings, pedestrian refuges, traffic islands and the upgrade of zebra crossing, on the B4290 Llandarcy to Skewen
• £253,000 for buffer zone speed limits, entry features, signage and road markings on the A4107 Afan Valley Rd, Ynysygwas to Abergwynfi
• £193,000 for a 20mph speed limit, entry features, signage, road markings and traffic calming measures in the residential area of lower Briton Ferry

Road Safety Education and Training £79,920

Safe Routes in Communities

• £250,000 for a shared use path and pedestrian crossing on Margam Road to improve access to Dyffryn School.
