Aberavon AM supports Recycle Week and is asking residents to take recycling into their own hands

This Week is Recycling Week and David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, is thanking residents for playing their part in making Wales one of the best recycling nations in the world. Mr Rees is however warning that there is still a lot more to be done.

Across Wales people are recycling more than ever before. In 2017-18, we recycled 62.7% of municipal waste, and are third in the world for household recycling. In Neath Port Talbot over 60% of waste is recycled.

The Welsh Labour Government support councils to meet tough recycling targets and are determined to make Wales a zero waste nation.

David Rees AM said: “Residents in Aberavon have played their part in making Wales the third best recycling nation in the world. This is an incredible achievement, and we would not be where we are today without the hard work and dedication of citizens and communities across Neath Port Talbot.”

“There is still more to be done to raise awareness and persuade people to recycle more. We know that more than half the material still in residual waste is easily recyclable, and getting that out of black bins and into recycling would see Wales achieve a recycling rate of more than 80 per cent.”

“Recycle Week, is about showing you care about planet and our beautiful nation by taking action to recycle even more. If each of us pledged to recycle just one more thing, it could make a huge difference.”
