David Rees AM and Mike Hedges AM have paid tribute to the Armed Forces community ahead of a national day of celebration.

On Saturday (June 30th) the nation will show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets. In Wales, there are estimated to be at least a quarter of a million members of the Armed Forces Community which includes serving personnel, reservists and cadets as well as their families and ex-Service personnel. To mark the occasion both David Rees and Mike Hedges will be attending events in their constituencies and have already taken part in flag raising events.

In a joint statement David Rees AM and Mike Hedges AM said:

“We would like to praising the courage, professionalism and sacrifice of our Armed Forces past, present and future. The Military personnel that are stationed here in Wales, together with their families, are an integral part of Welsh society, and most of us here cannot even begin to understand how service in the Armed Forces has impacted, and continues to impact on their lives.”

“Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity to formally thank our service men and women, past and present and we look forward to attending events in the area.”

They added:

“It’s also important to remember the demands on the families of those serving away from home. The Welsh Government is doing everything it can to help those families through a comprehensive programme of support.”
