Aberavon AM, David Rees, has pledged his support for the ‘Not in my Name’ campaign to mark White Ribbon Day . White Ribbon Day takes place on the 25th November and is also known as the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The campaign urges men and boys to wear a white ribbon as visible pledges never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

David Rees AM said:
“Domestic abuse is a heinous crime. It ruins lives and has a lasting impact on those who are the victims of it and their loved ones.”

“Whilst much has been done to tackle domestic violence, there remains the wider issue of complacency in our communities.”

“I would like to encourage anyone suffering from domestic abuse or anyone concerned about a friend or neighbour to call the All Wales Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 80 10 800.”

There are numerous ways people in Aberavon can highlight the campaign and the issue of violence against women on White Ribbon Day; be it in their community, workplace, faith group, social club etc. For more information or to get involved visit the White Ribbon day UK website at www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk.
