Aberavon AM , David Rees, has welcomed Thursday’s announcement that Swansea University will receive £60m of funding from the European Investment Bank alongside £30million of funding from the Welsh Government. This £90 million funding boost will go towards the development of a new Science and Innovation Campus on Fabian Way, which lies within the Aberavon Constituency, and the regeneration of its Singleton Park Campus.

David Rees AM said:

‘This is wonderful news for the Swansea Bay region. An economic study, conducted last year by the University, estimates that this project will not only create thousands of jobs but will also contribute more than £3 billion to the regional economy over the next 10 years. This project is set to be a global exemplar of research and manufacturing working together to produce bold and innovative benefits to the economy and region.”

David Rees AM added:

“The development will exist alongside an area of Special Scientific Interest which can only benefit from improved environmental and scientific research. For many years resident faced the unsightly view of oil tanks that were located at the site but this new development will provide a modern, environmentally friendly campus that will benefit both students and residents. I look forward to seeing this exciting and ambitious project develop over the coming years.”
