LOCAL TRANSPORT GETS £1M INVESTMENT

Roads in Aberavon are to benefit from a funding boost of over £1 million. The additional investment will be ploughed into the Harbour Way, providing access to Port Talbot Industrial Estate and the Afan Way Dualling.

David Rees AM said:
“I’m delighted that this additional investment will be coming to Aberavon. The money will go towards enhancing Harbour Way and will ensure that more areas are used effectively. Not only will this result in an improvement for residents but this will hopefully attract businesses and investment to the area which will have a knock on effect for the local economy.”

This investment is part of a grant of £11.4million for local authorities which was announced today by the Minister with responsibility for Transport, Carl Sargeant. The money will go towards improving local road networks and help target regional transport issues.

Carl Sargeant said:
“This investment will allow Local Authorities across Wales to improve their transport infrastructure and at the same time provide a considerable boost to the local economies in terms of safeguarding jobs.”
“People using these routes will not only see a marked improvement both in terms of travel time and road safety as a result of this welcome funding but also enhanced transport links for business.”

This investment will secure over £30million of European Regional Development Funding in 2012/13 that will also be invested in improving local transport infrastructures.

This latest announcement follows the £25million distributed between the four transport consortia in Wales last week.

The funding will enable each regional transport consortium to deliver schemes to support their Regional Transport Plans and improve road safety across Wales.
