Aberavon AM David Rees met with people living with diabetes this week in the Senedd to mark Diabetes Week (9-15 June).

Mr Rees met with Byron Adams, a member of Diabetes UK Cymru’s ‘Diabetes Voices’, a network of people affected by diabetes who want to influence and improve diabetes care in Wales. Mr Adams took this opportunity to speak about his experiences of living with diabetes and the standards of care that he receives.

David Rees AM said: “As a local representative I want to make sure that I am listening to what people with diabetes are telling me about the services they receive.

“By taking this opportunity to talk about diabetes and how it really affects people’s daily lives we can help raise awareness of this serious lifelong condition.”

Dai Williams, National Director of Diabetes UK Cymru, said: “We would like to thank David Rees for attending this event and listening to what people had to say about living with diabetes.

“More and more people in Wales are being diagnosed with diabetes and it is vital that their voices are being heard by their representatives. There are now over 8,900 people living with diabetes in Neath Port Talbot, while it’s estimated that a further 3300 people are living with the condition but don’t know it.

“Diabetes UK Cymru cares for, connects with and campaigns for all people with diabetes and their families, including through our Wales-wide network of voluntary groups.”
