AM’s Back Small Business Saturday

Local AM’s David Rees and Gwenda Thomas, are encouraging people in Aberavon and Neath to back this year’s nationwide campaign to support local independent traders on Saturday December 6th.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots campaign with small businesses of all kinds taking part. Highlights of the day include special deals for customers, showcase events, joint marketing with local media and much more.  Figures show that the UK’s small businesses provide almost two thirds of private sector employment and almost half of private sector turnover, and are vital to the towns and communities around Neath and Port Talbot.

Gwenda Thomas said: “Small businesses and the people, who work in them, make a huge contribution to this community. They of course provide employment but it is so much more than that. I hope this year’s event will continue to give a real boost to local businesses and help people discover some the brilliant independent traders we have in Neath, to create the thriving vibrant town centres we all want to see these companies need local support. I’d urge all my constituents to join me in exploring Neath and its surrounding towns on Saturday and see how much our local retailers have to offer.”

David Rees said: “Small enterprises are the bedrock of the local economy and local shops offer much more than just a one-stop-shop: they have more variety, they pride themselves on personal service and offer a friendly local welcome. Small Business Saturday gives us an excellent opportunity to celebrate these great businesses on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, and help local shops survive these difficult trading times”.

“With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, I would encourage everyone to back their local shops and independent traders by shopping with them not just on Saturday but whenever they can.”

Last year the Small Business Saturday bus toured the UK to raise awareness of the event and this year it is back with a bigger and better tour.
