Aberavon AM welcomes Afan Lido report.

David Rees AM congratulates the all-party Task and Finish group for their work looking into all of the issues relating to the rebuilding of the Afan Lido.

David Rees said; “What must be important to the people of Port Talbot is the ability to access the best facilities available and recommendations from the report give a clear indication that they will be able to do this in the future.”

He added; “I look forward to the development of a modern, fit for purpose swimming pool along with a variety of dry side facilities which will provide a resource for the town to be proud of”.

The Task and Finish Group was established by the local authority to consider the recommendations of the consultation process and the views of local people on the rebuilding of the Afan Lido.
The Task and Finish Group have looked at the concerns and aspirations involved in developing a new state of the art, fit for purpose facility which will meet the needs of local people while building upon the substantial regeneration of Aberavon Seafront as a tourist attraction and amenity for local people.

The old Afan Lido was an iconic local sports and leisure facility originally opened on Aberavon Seafront in the 1960s. Since the fire at the Afan Lido in December 2009 much work has been done to develop a replacement facility. A number of reports have been presented to elected members and the Local Authority has been quite clear on its commitment to build a replacement facility.
