“Aberavon AM David Rees holds urgent talks with ABMU over proposed changes at Neath Port Talbot Hospital”

David Rees AM, today held an urgent meeting with Paul Roberts, Chief Executive of ABMU, to discuss the proposals that have been put forward for the future of Ward B2 at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

David Rees AM said, “The importance of both the hospital and service delivery to the people of Port Talbot and its surrounding communities is critical. I have raised my concerns with ABMU to ensure that they make efficient and effective use of all facilities at Neath Port Talbot Hospital in delivering those services and expressed a strong view that ABMU are not to consider NPT hospital merely as a replacement for Cimla hospital, particularly in light of the on-site facilities other than the wards.”

He added, “It is time that a clear strategy for service delivery within ABMU is outlined so that everyone can understand the direction we are moving towards.”

Neath Port Talbot Hospital provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and day care services in Neath Port Talbot and is a vital component in Health Delivery for the people of Port Talbot and the surrounding communities. With acute medical services having already moved from the Hospital, ABMU must decide on a clear and structured strategy for services which are to be located at Neath Port Talbot hospital and outline these as soon as possible to ensure that all concerned are aware of the changes happening within the region.
