£300,000 AWARDED TO UPGRADE THE OLD BAGALAN SOCIAL CLUB BUILDING

The old Baglan Social Club building will benefit from a funding boost of more than £300,000 thanks to the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP). This money will be used by Balgan Community Church for the renovation of the ground floor and will provide a multipurpose room, youth room, coffee shop and curtain walling.

David Rees AM said:
‘I am delighted that this local project has been chosen to receive funding and I would like to congratulate all those involved in the application. I hope the new facility will go on to work in partnership with and compliment the work done by other facilities in the area, including the chill out centre located close by.’
‘These grants are not simply about improving buildings. Local clubs and centres can be the hub of the community where people, young and old, get together and enjoy social activities. I wish them all the best with the work and look forward to seeing the finished result.’

Baglan Social Club is based in Lodge Drive, Baglan, Port Talbot and it has been awarded £300,000 in principle, subject to due diligence visit.

Local Councillor, Peter Richards, also welcomed this injection of funding into the area stating:
“The Welsh Labour Government’s decision to provide a CFAP grant to help restore the old social club will give residents in Baglan additional facilities to come together as a community and improve the fabric of the area. It will be great to see a building that has stood empty for many years come back into full use once again. This money, in addition to the £114,000 granted by the Welsh Government for modernising the Library, will see major improvements in Baglan”.

CFAP is a grant scheme operated by the Welsh Government to help community and voluntary organisations provide facilities or carry out activities which will promote the regeneration of communities. Since CFAP was launched in in 2002, it has funded 825 projects totalling over £91 million.
